If You Can’t Beat ‘Em, Suppress ‘Em
Cloaked in misleading terms like “ensuring safe elections” and “protecting election integrity”, GOP efforts aim to reduce minority votes that cost them the White House and Senate in 2020. Realizing demographic shifts favor Democrats (with many young and minority Americans becoming eligible voters), Republicans came up with needed solutions, then searched for problems.
Deep in the Hate of Texas
Several times in recent history (including November, 2020, when Biden defeated Trump to become President), some go-it-alone Texans have threatened to secede from the U.S.A. Facing BILLIONS of dollars in losses, they won’t threaten that now. But with the rest of us facing the costly prospect of bailing them out for their arrogant mistakes, maybe WE should offer this age-old (paraphrased) advice: Don’t let the door hit you on your cowboy-hat-holding, outstretched hand on your way out.
Climate Change Visionaries
Respect for science is one of TMM's Basic Beliefs. Moderates, and all other humans, owe the climate-science pioneers described in this Guest Blog a debt of gratitude - along with citizen-scientists, activists and educators like George S. Turner (author of the blog), who continue studying climate change and informing all of us about it. Without them, our collective knowledge of climate change would have evolved much later – meaning it would have taken us even longer to understand (and eventually, reach consensus) that it is real, accelerating – and dangerous.
Hypocritical Hayride Heads Here Again
America’s hypocritical political hayride heads to Washington, D.C. again. After spending like drunken sailors while in power, Congressional Republicans announced the party’s over – once Democrats gained control. At least President Biden and VP Harris showed the courtesy to meet with GOP senators and hear them out.
Troubled By Trust For Trump
Some supporters say they recognized Trump’s shortcomings, but supported him anyway, because they favored his results (like conservative judges). Stuns the rest of us – like saying the guy down the street is a child molester; but he gives us nice gifts, so we ignore that. It’s hard to accept that someone you supported betrayed your trust. But we believe he betrayed you – and our country. Unlike Trump’s accusations, we base ours on evidence.
What True Patriots Do – And Don’t Do
Remain vigilant, Moderates, for anything suspicious, wherever you are, for the foreseeable future. All 50 states have been warned about potential violence. If you “see something, say something” to law enforcement. Then let’s DO what we’ve always done as patriotic Americans: disagree (sometimes passionately) on issues – but UNITE to preserve and protect our fragile democracy.
Proud of That?
All Trump enablers bear some responsibility for this riot, since they emboldened him to make inflammatory accusations. But on this terrible day of reckoning, some stiffened their spines and FINALLY did the right thing. Sadly, after four years of Trump, that’s the best we can hope for. Proud of that, America?
Georgia On My Mind – And America’s
Georgians must decide: vote for slick, insider politicians like Loeffler and Perdue, continuing Trump-style chaos? Or resist it by voting for newcomers Warnock and Ossoff? Moderates, VOTE on January 5th. You, like Georgia, are on America’s mind – and you might decide this election.
Profiles in Courage – And Chaos
Donald Trump keeps confirming his place in history: the most divisive, destructive U.S. President ever. Trump’s divisiveness has been on full display since Election Day. Like a teenager with anger issues who cannot accept losing, Trump has flailed around with unsubstantiated charges of massive voter fraud. Must have been massive fraud, indeed, since President-Elect Biden won a lopsided victory: roughly the same electoral-vote margin as Trump’s in 2016 (which he declared a landslide), and over 7 MILLION MORE popular votes than Trump – who received nearly 3 million LESS than Hillary Clinton.
Fact vs. Fiction: GA Senate Run-Offs
Georgians, before you vote, turn off the TV ads and talk radio, take a breather from your Facebook and Twitter feeds - and get the facts without the fluff. Then PLEASE make a voting plan and vote on (or before) January 5. Early Voting continues through January 1. Our country is depending on you.
